The Awareness of Keratoconus among General Population in Saudi Arabia

Introduction: Keratoconus (KCN) is one of the degenerative corneal disorders, which causes impairment in normal visual acuity with a higher prevalence Saudi Arabia. The study aimed to assess awareness and knowledge regarding KCN, its risk factors, management among population. Materials Methods: A survey was conducted using pre-tested validated questionnaire distributed through online platforms. mixture convenience snowball sampling techniques adopted for sample collection. Our analysis included final size 837 participant responses. had items related sociodemographic characteristics (5 items), (10 source information (1 item). mean scores were calculated categorized (good, fair, poor) each participant’s knowledge. Pearson’s chi-square test used determine statistical association between categorical variables. Results: score found be 4.12 ± 2.6, 67.5% participants showed “poor” scores. There no statistically significant observed any details. It agreed by 76% 42.5% that genetic predisposition chronic eye inflammation could predispose KCN. Only 38.1% (n = 157) KCN treated optical glasses or contact lenses initial stages.
